Why Mars?

Why work with Mars? Out of all the planets, why the little red one, Sarah? Why assertion, anger & all things Masculine? Why did you create Mastering Mars & why should I actually spend more time working with Mars than other planets? Let’s talk!

In the beginning…

When working with Astrology we usually start with getting to know our Big Three: our Sun, Moon & Rising. This helps us understand astrologically: who we are, what our Ego is like, how our intuition works, the mask we wear to the world & also - what we’re here to master. In my book (& practice) our chart is the map; it is an offering from our Soul & Higher Self that says: “You’re going to forget how powerful you are. I’ll give you this chart to find your way back home to it.”

When planets transit our chart, this is quite another story. This is when we get a welcome (or unwelcome) visitor saying: “Are you going to tend to my needs? Is everything in this house as you’d like it to be? Are there things you’re hiding, sides of yourself you don’t want anyone to see? Things you’ve swept under the carpet or a hidden basement you don’t want to go into? Is that a dresser pushed in FRONT of a door to that basement? Do you really want to hide that side of yourself forever?” We can choose to work with these transits & beautiful energetic visitors or let these opportunities pass us by.

When you are jumping head first into Astrology…

…it can be quite overwhelming. The chart, the aspects, the house, the nodes, etc. It prevents us (sometimes) from even studying the chart & transits in the first place! The overwhelm of the language stops us in our tracks & we can become frustrated - we KNOW it’s happening to us, want to work with it but have NO idea where to even begin.

In my practice & what I offer in Awakened Mastery: don’t start with the Natal Chart in study. Start studying & working with the transiting planets, overlaid over your Natal Chart (or chart of your company). Depending on where the planets are & what they’re highlighting - THAT will be the beacons on your personal map as to where to begin your astrological journey. Where to jump in. THAT is where your beacons are lit. Go there.

The Transits of the Inner Planets.

We can look at every transiting planet, especially the personal planets, as visitors of different kinds, stopping by our house & wanting to talk about or highlight a key part of our life. We can view our chart in a whole new light:

Transits of the Sun: the lighthouse. Highlighting the “theme” of the month / season & what might be coming up for us depending on the house it transits: Is everything in order, here? Are we happy with where & how things are? Do we need to clean house, tidy up or nourish the garden of what IS working… or a blend of it all?

Transits of the Moon: the seeds we plant or the weeds we weed. The moon scoots & in my personal practice I don’t follow the aspects of the moon each day - I only work with Full Moons & New Moons. I want astrology to be an integration into life but not what runs our life. We can work with the moon twice a month & that is enough.

Transits of Mercury: knowing when Mercury changes signs is very important. We get to know how our downloads will come in, how we will want to communicate, how the world will be communicating with us; but one key aspect: how will our communication be received? Will there be a stage for miscommunication galore based on execution? I find that this happens sometimes, especially when Mercury is in Sagittarius or Virgo. The tone & theme of the communication might not come across as we intend it to. Knowing the sign of Mercury (for me) is important & three times a year we spend a DEEP DIVE together: Mercury Retrograde. These are VERY important times of communicative introspection & chances to level up how we speak our truth. Three times a year, we get to know Mercury very very well.

Transits of Venus: I love Venus & her transits. She is so lovely & wants to bring us all the blessings we know in our hearts we deserve. Are we clear on what we want? Are we happy with the way our aesthetic feels in our homes, in our content, in our clothing, with our loved ones? Are we pleased with it? Venus WANTS you to be blessed, Venus WANTS you to have it all - but she receives. She doesn’t head out & make it happen. She must decide, feel into the breath & the nervous system & say: THIS is actually the level my work lives at. THIS is actually what I need to stay in my highest alignment. As my favorite Venus specialist says: Venus decides what she wants & then Mars goes to get it.

Transits of Mars: Mars wants to get things done, efficiently & with the highest potential. Mars doesn’t mince words, he simply executes. Mars isn’t soft, he is strong & powerful. Mars asks you to lean in to what scares you - since that is usually the work that NEEDS to be done. Mars asks: “Have you listened to the Sun, Moon, Mercury & Venus? I have & that’s why this area of life is making you uncomfortable. I’m ready to work with you but YOU have to change your habits here. What you’ve done got you here - where you’re going requires a new level of dedication. Not more work - but dedication. To being the you that you see in your mind’s eye. To trusting where I am, trusting where I’m transiting & leaving this transit as the most evolved version of yourself that you’ve ever been.” Mars says: “Let’s work together. The planets are showing you where to do the work - now go do it”.

Why Work with the Transits of Mars?

When you work with Mars transits, it’s not about spending more time with him, it’s about spending the proper time with him: before he changes signs or houses in your own chart. This is the time for setting intentions, marking the calendar & then making those moves. Acting in alignment with Mars, precisely where he is transiting your chart.

In my Mastering Mars program, we go over every transit of Mars: first we view Mars transiting the Houses & then in the Signs. For each sign we highlight:

  • The Main Themes of the transit.

  • What to be aware of.

  • What to utilize during this time.

  • & Mastery: what you want to take from this transit.

We mark our calendars for the dates of the these changes & spend a little time in the in-between - looking at the past transit of Mars & give ourselves a review: how did we utilize that energy? Did anything “out there” force us to make big changes? Did we listen to the whispers of the Universe & act accordingly or did we wait for the loud shouts?

How is this different from New Moon energy?

Every month we get a New Moon, a conjunction of the Sun & Moon - highlighting some fertile ground in our chart to “plant a seed” of what we DO want. Not so much making a wish, but a manifested idea, something to “call in”. For example: when we get a New Moon in our 7th house of relationships - calling in healthy relationships. When we get a New Moon in our 10th House - calling in the platform, legacy & aligned opportunities for our work to shine. New Moon in our 2nd House - opportunities for more money & access to new & aligned resources.

When we have a Mars Transit - WE are going out to do the work, WE are the ones to step into the environment that our future partner, aligned clients & new opportunities might be living. We pair the aligned action WITH the manifestation seed planted. Say you have a New Moon in the 10th House & Mars is transiting your 11th - are you reaching out to aligned community? Putting yourself in the environments of your FUTURE & not of your past? Are you setting boundaries with those not meant for your future?

Real-time note: As I write this, Mars is in my 11th & a New Moon is approaching in my 10th. I’m reaching out to aligned community, saying yes to rooms that stretch me & laying stones for the platform & legacy I’m here to steward. This is Mars + New Moon energy, embodied.

Say you have Mars transiting your 6th House & a New Moon in the 9th - are you applying to new jobs or reaching out to mentors for advice? Are you raising your prices & looking for education opportunities? Are you expanding the platforms you’re using, widening your reach & going to new spaces & locations to drop your business cards off… or joining meet & greets?

Say you have Mars transiting your 12th House & a New Moon in the 11th: are you connecting in meditation & using your Woo Woo to connect to aligned others? Are you in Yoga classes, shaking hands with others or reminding the community you DO align with… how much they mean to your heart? How is your breathwork practice? Maybe adding in a new mediation practice to your daily rhythm.

The New Moon in the chart is the Garden. YOU must embody Mars. This is the planet of action in our world - bringing your spirituality & your leadership to the same table. Let them work together with Mars transits, let the area of your chart where Mars transits shine a beacon on a beautiful area to focus on. When you work WITH Mars, you shine differently. You show up powerfully, aligned & that energy saturates off of you. You are investable in, you appear confident & ready - worthy of what it is you see in your minds eye & seek.

It is the first planet I recommend working with to blend into your leadership toolbox for when you want to truly make things shift & happen in your world. Integrating Mars work into your already successful leadership & personal growth practice will exponentially shift your paradigm. Those 0 - 1 jumps you NEVER thought possible: let Mars into the chat & watch your entire life change.
